The environment in which a child grows up helps shape the person he/she will eventually become. We at TLL believe that children can be influenced to chase their dreams by learning from, and being inspired by able mentors who can help steer them in the right direction.
Our mentor/mentee program - 'Mitr' will appoint selected individuals who work with the children personally as experienced and trusted advisors and confidants. We aim to create a conducive environment for growth and sharing so the kids are comfortable to approach us and their mentors with problems they need to talk about.
Our interaction with children from the less-privileged strata of our society has made us realise that their hand-to-mouth living conditions and exposure to nothing more than the state’s restricted vernacular curriculum, does little to shape their personalities. They are not acquainted with current affairs, new technology and burgeoning economic opportunities. Their horizons are limited to what they see around them, which eventually restricts their growth and development.
‘Mitr’ will provide boys and young men with a role model and friend, with whom they will be able to share their life experiences. Through regular outings, mutual trust and common interests will develop, which will serve as the foundation for a relationship between the mentor and the mentee; a relationship that our experienced caseworkers will ably support. The result - a life changing experience for both the mentor and the mentee.
The Mentoring program will require two regularly scheduled outings of 2-3 hours a month, and one year’s commitment in the least.
The program strives to do the following:
- Provide a role model and friend for boys and young men.
- Promote the importance of staying in school and having healthy relationships with one’s family and peers.
- Instil trust and self-confidence in order to make healthy decisions.
- Encourage leadership and independent thinking.
- And above all, make a difference while having fun!
